Bar Tat in Ilkley

I always love going 'over the border' into  Yorkshire.Yesterday we ventured to the lovely town of Ilkley.A town with many fine boozers.
One such establishment is Bar Tat,adjacent to the main car park in town. You just know it is going to be a fine experience.
Bar Tat is a typical traditional pub, offering a fine range of real ales and good food.It is one of them pubs where you take a little longer choosing your first tipple, as the choice is so good.
I started with a Marstons Oyster Stout. It was in superb condition.More body and more taste than any pint of Guinness! It is a creamy delight. My mate had the award winning Mary Jane from the local Ilkley Brewery.(I had been invited to the brewery, later in the day and will post a blog soon) Again, a great brew.Fruity, smooth with a nice bitter aftertaste. It recently won best beer out of 170 ales at the Pendle Beer Festival.A fantastic achievement for this relatively new microbrewery.
The service was excellent, the staff knew their beers and I was tempted to try the Acorn Old Moor Porter.I was offered a tester and took the advice! More body than the Oyster stout.A superb porter from the Barnsley brewer.
I feel I should also mention the food.I went traditional, with Yorkshire sausage, mash and gravy. My mate had the fish, chips and mushy peas. Both excellently presented. It was fine fodder indeed. And at 5.95, good value.
A nice town,a fine, friendly welcome and a cracking pub. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Will be back soon.
