There is something that has been quite noticeable recently, at the much loved beer festival. OK, they are always well organised, provide an excellent range of beers, and the people who attend are always friendly, polite and knowledgeable. Well, in most cases!
However, what has changed noticeably in recent times, is that there is a wider cross section of the general public. Only a few years ago we would attend a festival and be surrounded by jovial, chatty mature males with beards and beer bellies.
I am sure you have witnessed the scene. Festivals massively dominated by men in their 50's and 60's happily exchanging views on the quality and taste of their tipple.
It is still quite the case, to a degree. However, it is so good to see so many younger people attending. You witness lots more women too, sampling the beers. How times have changed. And for the better.
You see groups of youngsters enjoying themselves. At the last festival I attended, there were a couple of ladies groups in high spirits.Quite simply, that would have been unheard of a few years ago. Even, quite recently in my opinion. And how good it is to see.
It just proves real ale is appealing to both men and women, right across the age range. And not just confined to mature males. You just have to attend any beer festival now, for proof of that.

Aye, long gone are the days when my mates used to tease me by saying.'Going to a beer festival then, to join all the old geezers with beards and beer bellies!' Nah, them days are a fading memory. Well, almost....
